Kim Alessi is a Seattle-based educator, writer, and instructional coach specializing in educational technology.

Kim has been teaching and writing about technology, education, and media since 1991, specializing in helping learners of all ages navigate educational technology with clarity, humor, and hands-on discovery.

A longtime classroom teacher, artist-in-residence, and instructional coach, she is also a published curriculum writer for Apple, Common Sense Media, Smithsonian Global Sound, the Museum of Pop Culture, and the Seattle International Children's Festival.

As a leader in teacher training and professional development, Kim focuses on digital literacy and media arts, embracing the SAMR model to support creative, engaging learning for both students and educators. Known for her strong communication and collaborative approach, she works across disciplines to make EdTech accessible and effective.

Kim holds a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies (Music, Communications, Economics) from SUNY Potsdam, an M.Mus. in Music Technology from NYU, and completed extensive post-graduate studies in Ethnomusicology and Music Education at the University of Washington. She is also certified in AP Computer Science Principles, Computer Science Discoveries, AI in Education, and Learning Experience Design. Additional certifications include Apple Learning Coach, Apple Teacher, Microsoft Educator, Minecraft Educator, Adobe Creative Educator, Google Educator, and Common Sense Educator.

Kim is also a musician who performs percussion in Japanese taiko, Filipino kulintang, Javanese gamelan, Nigerian jùjú ensembles, as well as jazz and various rock bands.

Parenthood has deepened her appreciation for responsible technology use and the impact of integrated EdTech and AI in education. She thrives on collaborating with students, teachers, administrators, and parents to create meaningful learning experiences.

When unplugged, Kim explores the Pacific Northwest, oversees homegrown science and art projects, and whips up Indian and Italian feasts—with salmon panch phoron and eggplant parmesan earning top reviews.
